Women's 1's:
Women's 1's took on an organized Mid Sussex side last Saturday. The team started with a slightly changed line up but everyone blended we;; and continued with the high work rate and effort from the previous week's game. In a physical encounter both teams had chances in the 1st half. The 1's had some lovely interchanging attacking moves down the left and right sides alongside some solid tackles in defence. Sandra H made some excellent saves to keep the score 0:0 at half time. After the break the opposition came out strong and the 1's found themselves 1:0 down within the 1st 2 minutes The team fought hard and despite a few injuries a lovely pass from Lucy S put Jet VZ through who finished it beautifully to make the score 1:1. The game continued at pace with the 1's now down to just 11 players with the injured players unable to return. Mid Sussex capitalised and scored with 10 minutes remaining. Despite a huge team effort the Crows could not find the equalizer and the match finished in a 2:1 loss. Player of the match went to Emma C who was excellent across several positions.
Women's 2's:
The Women's 2's travelled to Stenying for a game against South Downs 2's last Saturday. From the get go the Crows dominated the game, with all players on the attack this enabled superstar forward Jess J to score. The 2nd goal came from captain Josie M, who managed to steal the ball from the defender and swop it past the goalie meaning the Crows were up 2:0. Jess J managed to bag another goal after a cracking ball in from wingback Becky I. South Downs fought back and managed to bag 2 goals, meaning the Crows went into half time 3:2 up. The 2nd half changed for the Crows and as a team it was simply one of the best performances we have seen this season. We saw Meg S make some fantastic attacks at goal, young defender Daisy H was as fierce as ever, ensuring any attacks from opposition were stopped in their tracks and the ball was powerfully cleared out to wingback Sophia D. The team gelled and dominated the oppositions D throughout, meaning attacks were coming in from all players. Jess J managed to score another goal, making it a hat-trick! We then saw a goal from midfielder Flo F, who stormed the pitch throughout the game and simply did not stop! Flo F went on to receive player of the match for her outstanding play. The final score was 5:2 to the Crows, a cracking team performance as always.
Women's 3's:
Women’s 3’s hosted the always fun Brighton Rogues at home in the beautiful sunshine. For the first 15 minutes Crowborough were playing into a low sun which left very little visibility. The rogues took full advantage and started with a strong attack but Bethy C was formidable in defence and cleared our D again and again with Alison Y always there to clear the ball to. Despite some heroic goal keeping from Jane F the rogues scored the 1st goal. Soon Crowborough settled and were in the attack. Jess I teared through the opposition to find Amber V but the goal was just not there until young Bethany B (Player of the match) with composure in the D to slammed one past the opposition with her 1st adult goal and brought us to 1:1 at half time. The 2nd half continued in the same way with both teams having opportunities however the Rogues managed to sneak one more past the keeper for the match to finish in a 1:2 defeat.
Men's 2's:
A trip to the south coast by the Men's 2's saw for the 2nd weekend a makeshift central defence partnership and knew the game was going to be difficult. Throughout the game the back 4 played with composure and passion. The midfield started well and through a lot of interplay were unlucky not to take the lead, but from a short corner, the home side did. The response from Crowborough was immediate, they stepped up the pressing which resulted in a turnover in the D which Nate P tidied up and dispatched a well taken shot between the keepers legs. The remainder of the 1st half was quite even and both sides went in level. After a positive team talk the visitors came out with purpose and an even more attacking intent and this was rewarded instantly with a well worked move that involved Will H sprinting through a couple of tackles down the right and finding Player of the match Nate P who worked his magic and slipped the ball to James L who had a first time shot on the back post to take the lead. Both sides played the game in good spirits and lots of attacking intent but the visitors had a bit more composure and class which shone through at the end. It was a well deserved away win which could have been a different result on a different day.
Men's 3's:
Mens 3's visited the league leaders Eastbourne last Saturday. With a bare 11 the side worked exceptionally hard for each other and made it incredibly difficult for the home side. In the 1st half the Crows gave them quite a scare. Jude F was a constant danger in the middle and Stuart S was playing through some dangerous balls. Pressure from the Crows midfield resulted in two short corners. Both were put dangerously on target from top of the D strikes by Eddie D but they could not be converted. In defence Graham C made some well timed last ditch tackles and keeper Alex WT made some point blank saves. However despite a well organised defensive unit the Crows were down 3:0 at half time. The 2nd half was a story of the Eastbourne short corners with them clinically dispatching half a dozen shots on target. The defensive players were still working incredibly hard with John F holding the middle robustly. In the final minutes Jacob Sand Harvey H combined to create a final chance for the Crows and despite a brave dive it just went wide. The final score was 12:0 to Eastbourne.
Girl's Development:
The girls development team headed to Worth school for a match against Burgess Hill, the ladies were in good spirits heading into the match and we looked confident at the pushback. The 1st few minutes of the game the ladies were passing well and using the width however Burgess Hill were also looking strong and intercepting well. After a few minutes they broke the defensive line and the Crows were 1:0 down! The opposition had a great front line and a centre back that could drive the ball way upfield. Despite the girls best efforts and some amazing saves by Isla B in goal, the opposition took a 2nd goal. Seconds later after some excellent midfield tussles Lottie C broke away and managed to get one on one with the keeper with a slight side step the Crows took a goal back! Unfortunately, this did not dampen Burgess Hill's spirits and they drove really hard, controlling a lot of the field and when the girl's finally came in at half time they were 5:1 down. After a team talk where the ladies all openly acknowledged some of their short-comings in the 1st half they took the bit between our teeth and got back out with a confident stride! Much to the Crow's surprise so did Burgess Hill and they weren't willing to take the foot off the gas and stole 2 quick goals in the 2nd half. Spirits remained as high as they could and the team dug deep to take control of the play, some excellent width and recognition of the failings in the 1st half meant they passed the ball confidently and Matilda W and Lottie C made a number of excellent drives towards the goal. The ladies held there own for the remaining part of the game and prevented any further goals for the opposition. A 7:1 loss was a bitter pill to swallow but there was some brilliant play across the team, Saania M played out of her comfort zone in defence and played an amazing 2 halves, showing her height and reach could be beneficial to the team. Olivia S and Catherine McK made an excellent pairing in the centre and Lydia C had an excellent game on the wing!
