WOMEN'S 1'S:
Crowborough Women's 1's played Burgess Hill 1's on Saturday. The Crows started strong with some good counter attacks and having the most clear cut chance of the half with a lovely hit just brushing past the post by Tilly R-R but no-one was their to deflect it home for Crowborough. With the defense being very solid and not allowing the opposition to covert any of their chances to goal and Michelle H running her socks off up front putting pressure on Burgess Hill's defense it meant they had to come into the 2nd half with a new strategy. Despite the Crows keeping it 0:0 in the 1st half Burgess Hill started the 2nd half strongly and with a tiring Crowborough team they conceded 4 quick goals. Keeper Sandra S stopped the score from getting any bigger with a last minute save from a penalty flick. The final score was a 4:0 loss and Player of the match was Clare Bennett.
WOMEN'S 2'S:
Women's 2's travelled to Brighton on Saturday to take on Hailsham and they started very strongly with a goal scored by captain Josie M within the 1st 5 minutes. The forwards and midfielders then set on more attacks which provided multiple opportunities for goals. The 2nd goal came from Jenny B meaning the score was 2:0 going into half time. Hailsham rallied back in the 2nd half placing their top striker up high meaning any ball coming her way was going to be struck at the goal however this didn't phase the Crows. The defenders and wing backs cleared any attempts at goal meaning Alice D goalkeeper only had 1 or 2 saves to make which she executed perfectly. The 2nd half saw a goal for midfielder Hannah W and the final goal came from Josie M to make it a 4:0 win. Player of the match went to Emma C for her awesome play throughout and the Crows showed real teamwork throughout supporting each other and enabling everyone to have their best game possible despite the opposition creating a challenging game.
WOMEN'S 3'S:
Women's 3's played Southwick at home on Saturday, the team made a strong attacking start and at just 7 minutes in Charlie scored her 1st goal for Crowborough with a cracking strike from the top of the D. The score stayed there all 1st half despite several attacking runs from Meg S and Jess I. The 2nd half saw the Crows continue with their strong attacking play. Lizzie and Hermoine continued to disrupt the Southwick attack and sent the ball back down the pitch where Sophie scored from a tight angle. The opposition immediately fought back and there speedy forward found a hole in the defense to score bringing the score 2:1. A last attack for the Crows was well defended by Southwick meaning the Crows narrowly won getting their first win of the season.
MEN'S 1'S:
Crowborough Men's 1s went up against Worthing 4s at Crowborough's home pitch on Saturday. They went into this game with a strong team of 13 and it showed with them keeping control of the ball making simple passes and getting through the Worthing defense. After the 1st 10 minutes of the game, Crowborough were finding their way into Worthing's D and managed to gain some short corners. This lead to a series goals by Crowborough starting with Chris C slipping a flick past the goalie. From Worthing's push back, Crowborough put the pressure straight back on and got Worthing backed into a corner causing a turn over. From this Crowborough played swift passes leading to Jake S slotting his shot into the bottom corner. Following this, Worthing struggled to get gain any momentum allowing Hamish M and James P to each score. Leading towards hlaf time, Crowborough's defense pushed too high leaving Worthing to catch Crowborough on the back foot leading to a goal from a penalty corner for the opposition. With Worthing getting some energy back, they pressed on and were able to pass the ball past Crowborough's defence and narrowly scored a second goal off of Crowborough's keeper. Worthing went into the second half with a defensive formation not pushing Crowborough which caused a slow start. Worthing found a weakness in Crowborough's defence with aerials leading to two close shots on goal and more short corners however Crowborough kept their heads and held them off. In the final minutes of the game, Dan C put his body on the line and scored 2 deflection goals leaving the game a 6:2 win for the Crows. Tom J got Player of the match for his help in the center and keeping Crowborough pressing hard all game.
MEN'S 2'S:
On the back of two good wins Crowborough travelled to Lewes with hopes of another.
Lewes started strongly and Crowborough found themselves a goal down when Phil N was narrowly beaten by the opposition. Towards the end of the first half Crowborough began to put some pressure on Lewes and were unlucky not to go into the break on level terms. The 2nd half continued with Crowborough putting more pressure on the Lewes' defense but a breakaway goal where Lewes found a man free on the far post doubled their lead. Crowborough rallied strongly with the young midfield ably marshalled by Darren P and Will S and when Nate P scored a wonderful flick lobbing the keeper from the edge of the D, Crowborough began to think the draw was achievable but Lewes kept their composure and closed the game out.
MEN'S 3'S:
The Men's 3's hosted St Francis last weekend, at 2:1 the Crows were playing well and pushing for an equalizer but unfortunately the more open game left space for the opposition to exploit. Despite the 5:1 loss there were so many positives to pull from their performance, the goal for the Crows was from Ru M and Player of the match was shared between Jude F and Mark F.
