WOMEN'S 1'S:
Ladies 1's produced a comprehensive team performance to beat East Grinstead 3's 4:2 for their first win of the season on Saturday. Crowborough caught East Grinstead by surprise by applying pressure from the 1st whistle, closing play swiftly in midfield and capitalizing on the width of the pitch. The 1st half saw Crowborough dominate from midfielders Lucy S and Charlotte R utilizing the width of the pitch out wide to Hannah W and Alice W, together with Centre forward's Kate Baxter and Jet V-Z challenging the oppositions defense, culminating in a string of chances. Crowborough broke the score line through a well drilled short corner, which was finished by Kate B soon after another goal came for the crows. As expect East Grinstead responded and soon scored to leave it 2:1 at half time. Knowing that the opposition would come out strong in the 2nd half, Crowborough kept the intensity up even scoring a 3rd against East Grinstead. The 1's attack converted another short corner before completing a solid team attack move giving Kate B her hattrick. Boro's defense line held steadfast throughout the match, and despite the opposition coming back with another goal, the game was a resounding win. Player of the match went to Kate B for her awesome performance including a hattrick.
WOMEN'S 3'S:
Women’s 3’s had the late game at home against the formidable Lewis Legends on Saturday. The team started with intent with Eve T and Meg S proving to be a dynamic partnership at attacking midfield. Lewis soon came thundering into the D but the defensive team of Sarah M and Bethy C were on fire, clearing the ball wide for wing backs Lizzie P and Ali Y to send back up the pitch. Soon Lewis won there first short which the team knew from previous games how well drilled these are but also how they play them. Putting Thursday night training into practice Captain and well earned Player of the match Sarah M held firm on post and frustrated Lewis with 2 awesome saves. Soon Crowborough we’re back on the attack with some excellent balls down the wing to Annouska W. A breakaway by Lewis led to a scrappy frustrating goal but just before half-time Crowborough levelled the score with an excellent ball in from Amber V which was finished by Meg S to level the scores. The 2nd half saw much of the same. Crowborough continued to frustrate Lewis' short corner drills and Hazel S and Bethy C cleared the defense time and time again. The Crowborough attack continued and had multiple shots on goal however Lewis thundered through with a fantastic goal to go 2:1 up. Despite the best efforts of the forwards they could not find the goal to level. A fantastic performance from the whole team despite it ending in defeat.
MEN'S 1'S:
Crowborough Mens 1's came up against Brighton and Hove 5's for an early afternoon push back on Saturday. Crowborough started the game with a hard press which gained them early possession and allowed them to control the game by keeping possession and making easy passes between the defense and midfield. From this, Crowborough showed their pace and skill both of the game and individually which allowed for early shots on goal. Crowborough made a poor pass between defense which Brighton we able to capitalise on and ran the ball towards goal which Harry Hook attempted to tackle before they were able to get a shot off however taking the Brighton player out leading to a penalty flick which Brighton scored. From the goal, Crowborough came back from this with a fierce press causing a short corner to be one for Crowborough. Hamish M stepped up and scored Crowborough's 1st goal of the game with a drag flick into the left of the net. With the game equalizing, Crowborough didn't let up and maintained their composure with the Jake F and Freddie K allowing the ball to move seamlessly up the pitch and lead to Freddie K scoring Crowborough's 2nd goal which ended up being the las play of the 1st half of the game. Brighton weren't able to get their footing in the 2nd half which lead to Hamish M and Freddie K scoring a further goal each from well executed short corners. With this, Crowborough were able to take away another win going into next week's game against top of the league. Player of the match went to Freddie Knott. The final score was a 4:1 win.
MEN'S 3'S:
Crowborough’s Men's 3's team hosted Brighton & Hove 9’s for a midday push back on Saturday. The first part of the match saw a young very well drilled Brighton side dominate play with their slick passing. Crowborough dropped very deep into their own half as they struggled to deal with the overload of Brighton players in the box.
This resulted in a goal for the visitors. Crowborough saw the half out with pure grit and resilience even creating some chances of their own. A brief team talk at half time and some great communication from Matt B at the back saw a much improved half for the Crows. The 3’s worked their socks off, with the midfield working hard to protect the defense and strikers driving forward on the break. Finally a drive into the box saw a strike from Lewis H find the target for a much deserved equalizer. A spirited team performance, digging deep and working incredibly hard resulted in a 1:1 draw. Player of the match went to Lewis H for his hard work, great passages of play and a well deserved goal.
