The Mixed hockey league began with an encounter between Hailsham and Crowborough. It was a pulsating all action affair with a 2-2 draw played out between the two league hopefuls.
Hailsham began with urgency and power and stormed into the lead. The Crows regrouped and a bullet-like strike to the far right corner by player of the match Freddie Knott brought the sides level once more. Excellent work by Nick Sparks in goal was keeping out the probing opponents. Going forward, Knott set up Vicky Dennett but the connection was too slim then Dennett turned provider for the excellent James Lee who did an incredible job with a number of openings.
Despite a well marshalled defensive line where Ash Fishenden, Danni Newitt, Fraser Milne and Tilly Ryder Richardson excelled, the visitors managed to once more go ahead. The Crows were undeterred. Ted Fulham continued to make excellent runs, Matt Burns and Amanda Catling took tight hold of the midfield and Charlie Ralph won all his duals. However it was the determined, speedy right winger Lucy Knott who got the equaliser pouncing on a rebound to secure a point for her side.
The Mixed are next in action away to Mid Sussex on Sunday October 27th.
PIC: James Lee: came close to scoring with some excellent strikes.
